Remsoft and Forestry Tasmania Demonstration Site
November 20th, 2002
The Geospatial Resource Portal | GIS Development As published on www.gisdevelopment.net Foresters in Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia will have a chance to see Remsoft's spatial planning software packages at work, thanks to a new arrangement between Remsoft Inc. and Forestry Tasmania.
The agreement sees Forestry Tasmania, the Government Business Enterprise responsible for the stewardship of publicly-owned forests in the Australian island state, become an official Demonstration Site for Remsoft's Spatial planning software system - Woodstock and Stanley.
Forestry Tasmania is happy to host delegations from around the south pacific interested in learning from its forest management expertise; it's main focus is eucalypts, both in the native and plantation context. Now, as an official Demonstration Site for Woodstock and Stanley, the agency will demonstrate how these software tools are used to help address increasingly complex forest management regimes.
Forestry Tasmania has been using Woodstock for a number of years for harvest scheduling and long-term sustainable management of 1.502 million hectares of multiple-use State forest, including 178,000 hectares of forest reserves. It has recently published a review of the 'High Quality Eucalypt Sawlog Supply from Tasmanian State Forest' as a requirement for the first five year review of the 1997 RFA (Regional Forest Agreement). Woodstock was a key tool in this review.
