Companies Across the Forest Industry Continue to Improve Sustainability, Lower Costs and Run More Efficiently Because of Remsoft

Recent Customers Including Forest Intelligence Group, the Latvian Government and Idaho Department of Lands Utilize Remsoft to Determine Proper Value and Usage of Land Assets

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – December 19, 2011Remsoft, a leading provider of asset optimization and supply chain analytics solutions, today announced that it continues to see innovative companies within forestry turn to its technology and expertise to help optimize land assets, improve sustainability and become more efficient organizations.

Latvia is one of the most forested areas in the world, with more than 46 percent of the Latvian country being covered by forest. The nation’s government Latvijas valsts meži owns a majority of the forest lands and looked to Remsoft and its partner Savcor Forest to help it optimize its operational harvest planning and how best to meet market, social, economic and sustainability objectives. Through Remsoft’s analytics and optimization technology, Latvia will be able to lower costs and create a more efficient, effective way of operating, ultimately increasing profits.

North Carolina-based Forest Intelligence Group (FIG), a timberland investment banking firm that provides a broad range of advisory services and liquidity solutions for the primary and secondary timber markets, sought a way to help investors and Timber Investment Management Organizations (TIMOs) properly review and evaluate land assets, including the potential future risks associated with each. With Remsoft’s spatial planning and analysis technology, FIG has been able to help TIMO members execute liquidity solutions when needed; while also helping potential new investors determine the actual value of the land and better understand the risks and rewards associated with investing.

The Idaho Department of Lands chose Remsoft as the optimization, scheduling and planning framework for its new forest management system, where it will tie into the inventory management system, and feed various upstream applications through its web services infrastructure layer. With Remsoft, the department will be able to better plan its harvesting and land usage, making the sometimes conflicting goals of supply, sustainability, environmental stewardship and profitability all work together.

Continuing with efforts to support education and research initiatives that foster innovative approaches to management and planning, Remsoft has also added two new customers to its Educational Partners Program. This includes Michigan Technological University, a leader in technology, engineering and scientific degree programs. It has selected Remsoft’s solution in its teaching program and for research projects in forestry, carbon management and biomass for bioenergy.

Additionally, the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, a renowned forestry school that’s well known and extremely influential in the industry, has chosen Remsoft’s optimization solution for the school’s annual Forest Planning course to train its students on how to optimize land use in an efficient, sustainable manner.

In line with its mission of educating those in forestry about the benefits of utilizing optimization technology, Remsoft spoke at 2011 conferences including US Forest Service in Colorado, Forestry GIS in California, F4 TECH User Group in Alabama, the Society of American Foresters in Hawaii and both ForestTECH shows in New Zealand and Australia.

Strengthening Remsoft’s network, Remsoft has also named its 2012 Consulting Partners, which include American Forest Management, one of the largest forest consulting and real estate brokerage firms in the United States; Consultants forestiers DGR, a leader in forestry since 1960 and comprised of forest engineers, forest technicians, photo-interpreters, computer analysts, cartographers and GIS specialists; Cortex Consultants, an organization that brings analytical, management, and communication skills to tackle complex problems in natural resource planning and management; F4 TECH, a provider of technical forest and natural resource management services and products; Grow Solutions ; Mason, Bruce & Girard, a full-service natural resources consulting firm, with expertise in environmental services, forestry and geographic information systems (GIS); Pöyry, a global consulting and engineering company dedicated to balanced sustainability and responsible business; Sewall, an integrated team of geospatial, engineering and natural resource consultants; Timberland Appraisal Inc., who offer harvest scheduling analysis, timber supply and demand forecasting, expert witness and litigation support, operations research and statistical analysis, systems design and model development for timber inventory resources; Bernard Walker, an independent consultant providing technical and project management services for clients primarily in the industrial forestry sector in Australia.

“Forestry organizations are embracing asset optimization to increase the sustainability and profitability of their resources,” said Doug Jones, VP of Forestry, Remsoft. “Remsoft’s traction across forestry and other industries is a testament to the value that can be created simply from better management and planning.”
